College of Science Scholarships
Information and College of Science Scholarship Application Forms are available from the College of Science office located in SC N131. The application deadline for the following scholarships is May 22,
2009. Selection and award announcement will be made by the College of Science Scholarship Committee on or about June 8, 2009.

Ernest Clements Scholarship

One (1) $500 scholarship is offered to SOPHOMORES and JUNIORS majoring in BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, BIOCHEMISTRY, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, GEOLOGY, MATHEMATICS, COMPUTER SCIENCE, PSYCHOLOGY, and STATISTICS. This scholarship was established by the Cal State Affiliates from a gift of the late Ernest L. Clements, a prominent Hayward businessman and one of the original members of the Cal State Affiliates, Inc. The following criteria must be met to apply: A CSUEB sophomore or junior (at the time of the application); 24 units completed (or in progress) at CSUEB; 2 personal letters of reference from CSUEB Faculty; GPA of 3.0 or higher; personal statement.

Guy Warren Scholarship

One (1) $500 scholarship is offered to SENIORS majoring in BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, BIOCHEMISTRY, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, GEOLOGY, MATHEMATICS, COMPUTER SCIENCE, PSYCHOLOGY, and STATISTICS. It is awarded from the proceeds of a memorial endowment fund administered by the Cal State Affiliates, Inc. and administered by friends of Mr. Warren, a long time Hayward resident and businessman who was instrumental in securing the location of Cal State in Hayward. The following criteria must be met to apply: A CSUEB SENIOR (at the time of application); 24 units completed (or in progress) at CSUEB; 2 personal letters of reference from CSUEB Faculty; GPA of 3.0 or higher; personal statement; recipient must be enrolled in 12 units of study in fall quarter 2009.

Robert C. & Jeanne M. Whitney Scholarship

One (1) $500 scholarship is offered to UNDERGRADUATE students majoring in GEOLOGY or PHYSICS. In particular, those students showing an interest in teaching secondary or high school science are encouraged to apply. This scholarship is awarded from a donation by Robert C. Whitney, who taught in the Physics and Geology Departments from 1963 to 1990. The following criteria must be met to apply: 24 units completed (or in progress) at CSUEB; 2 personal letters of reference from CSUEB faculty; GPA of 3.0 or higher; personal statement.

Hospital Service League Scholarship

One (1) $1,000 scholarship is offered to UNDERGRADUATE students in the fields of CLINICAL NURSING, HEALTH SCIENCES, and BIOLOGY (with a Biomedical Laboratory Sciences option). This scholarship was established by a gift from the Hospital Service League of San Leandro. The following criteria must be met to apply: APPLICANT MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENT OF ALAMEDA COUNTY; who has completed (or in progress) a minimum of 24 units at CSUEB; GPA of 3.0 or higher; personal statement demonstrating clinical aptitude, and describing academic interests, extra curricular activities, career aspirations, as well as financial need; 2 personal letters of reference from CSUEB faculty.

Elsie Sanderson Nursing Scholarship

One (1) $1,000 is offered to CSUEB NURSING students. This scholarship is given in memory of Elsie Sanderson, whose life-long dream to become a nurse was never fulfilled due to the socio-economic conditions of her time. The following criteria must be met to apply: A CSUEB student who has been admitted to the Nursing Clinical program and who will be a Level II student or above in Fall 2009; GPA of 3.0 or higher; 2 personal letters of reference from CSUEB faculty; personal statement describing why the applicant is entering the nursing profession, career aspirations, contributions the applicant has made to the community, as well as financial need.

Joan Sieber-Tombari & Ric Tombari Graduate Scholarship

Scholarships, in amounts to be determined, will be awarded to eligible students presently enrolled at CSUEB who will begin GRADUATE STUDY in a SERVICE PROFESSION in Fall 2009, or who are currently a first year graduate student. Graduate programs in social science or in any service-related profession are acceptable if the student demonstrates a clearly described commitment to specialize in a way that involves serving others. The following criteria must be met to apply: Proof of admission to graduate school; 2 letters of recommendation – one from a CSUEB faculty member and one from outside the University; personal statement.

ACCMA Auxiliary District II Scholarship

The Alameda/ Contra Costa Medical Association District II Fund has donated $9,200.00 in scholarship monies for the 2009-2010 academic year. Scholarships, in amounts to be determined, will be awarded Fall Quarter 2009. Recipients are expected to pursue graduate study in medicine or related health fields. The successful applicant(s) will show a record of academic excellence and financial need. CSUEB JUNIORS and SENIORS, who have completed or will complete a minimum of 90 quarter units at the end of spring quarter, majoring in Science. Post-baccalaureates registered in the Preprofessional Health Advisory Program at CSUEB are also eligible to apply if 24 units of study have been completed at CSUEB. Recipients are expected to pursue graduate study in medicine or related health fields. In particular, those students pursuing research opportunities in the medical field are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant(s) will show a record of academic excellence and financial need. APPLICANT MUST BE A LEGAL RESIDENT OF ALAMEDA COUNTY.
