THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Nursing and Health Sciences is in the College of Science. The department has over 450 students in accredited BSN program at the Hayward and Concord campus. Nursing program graduates have a history of strong performance on the NCLEX, and the nursing curriculum has recently been updated. Over 530 students are enrolled in the Health Sciences Program which has four options: Administration, Pre-professional Preparation, Education, and Environmental Health. The Department has a reputation for producing highly skilled health professionals and enjoys supportive relationships with the region's healthcare facilities. THE UNIVERSITY: California State University, East Bay occupies 342 acres in the Hayward Hills, affording a panoramic view of nearly the entire San Francisco Bay Area. Cal State East Bay's proximity to the major Bay Area cities provides unique cultural opportunities including museums, art galleries, aquariums, planetariums, plays, musicals, sports events, and concerts. The nearby Pacific Ocean and Sierra Nevada Mountains offer recreational diversion as well as excellent laboratories for educational studies. The campus's nine major buildings contain 150 classrooms and teaching laboratories, 177 specialized instructional rooms, numerous student oriented computer labs and a library which contains a collection of over one million items, its online catalog. The University has an enrollment of approximately 13,000 students with 600 faculty. CSUEB is organized into four colleges: Arts, Letters, and Social Sciences; Business and Economics; Education and Allied Studies; Science. The University offers bachelor's degrees in 41 fields and master's degrees in 28 (in addition to Special Majors). Other programs lead to teaching, specialist, pupil personnel services, and administrative services credentials. CSUEB also operates the Concord Campus, which provides full instructional support for over 1,600 upper division and graduate students. DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Department Chairs at CSU East Bay are responsible to recruit and retain faculty and students; develop and achieve Department vision and goals; design/ maintain progressive curricula and programs to meet community needs; oversee program operations; develop and maintain sources of extramural funding. Administrative responsibilities are conducted at California State University, East Bay at both the Hayward and Concord campuses.
RANK AND SALARY: Rank, salary, and tenure are dependent upon educational preparation and experience and subject to budgetary authorization.
