A Genetic Algorithm for Image Alignment in Multiple Projector Display Systems

For sophisticated display systems using specially designed projectors, the alignment of the projectors with respect to the geometry of the display surface is a challenging task. This thesis presents a unique technique based around a simple genetic algorithm for performing camera-based alignment of images for display systems containing two projectors. In addition to achieving the alignment automatically, the proposed solution is extremely simple and inexpensive as it utilizes a software simulation of both the projector system and the location of the actual display surface. The simulator is based upon the perspective projection model (PPM) of image formation, and is designed to automate the complex processes of geometric calibration and matrix transformation.
