Groups, Characters, and Table Algebras
We will start with definitions and examples of groups, conjugacy classes, and class functions. Then we will discuss characters and irreducible characters of a group. Let CF(G) be the algebra of class functions of a group G. An important result is that the irreducible characters of the group G form a special basis of CF(G) as a vector space over complex numbers. This result is the motivation of the concept of a table algebra. We will conclude the talk with some recent results on table algebras.
Pizza and soda will be served for those attending!
