Database Security: Principles & Practice

Database security comprises of a set of measures, policies and mechanisms to provide confidentiality, integrity and availability of data. Threats to the data can be accidental or intentional and attacks are possible from outsiders as well as insiders. Task of providing effective protection in database management systems is particularly difficult since they process large amounts of information in complex ways and require fine granularity control over data. This talk introduces principles of database security and provides a flavor of what mechanisms are available in commercial DBMS such as ORACLE.
